Prairie Creek Trails Identity

Prairie Creek Trails is a hiking and mountain biking trail system located on the south end of the Prairie Creek Reservoir in Muncie, IN. The trails consist of both a wide multi-use path and a single track path. The trails wind through a varied landscape of hardwood forest, wooded wetlands and small streams. There's a wide variety of nature viewing as well, making this a location for everyone.

To create this identity system, various trail systems and maps were studied to learn how those who use trail systems are given important information. During this process, it was learned that trail maps use a system of lines, dots, and dashes to communicate terrain, difficulty, and naturally occurring obstacles. This culminated in the identity that was created: a lockup of three icons, meant to be used together or individually as secondary lockups, that are made using stylized forms of the trail map communication system discovered.
